MUST DO BETTER - JIM
Coach Jim McInally was disappinted with both the performance and result in the 1-1 draw with Elgin City at Ochilview.
A match Shire had started firm favourites to win looked as though it was slipping away from the team until Jamie Stevenson's 89th minute equaliser cancelled out Craig Gunn's goal on the quarter hour mark for the visitors.
The coach was relieved to get a point from the game but was far from impressed.
"I was very disappointed," he said. "It was very poor. From middle to front we just never got going and although we huffed and we puffed and saw plenty of the ball we didn't do anything with it."
But he admitted Elgin City had posed his players a problem which they could seem to find no answer to.
"They came and put every player behind the ball and with one up front. We got caught with a sucker punch goal and as soon as that happened they had something to hang onto."
Jim says the team struggled because they weren't clever enough to break down Elgin's massed defence.
"We need to smarter than we were today if teams are going to come here and play like that," he said.
"We need to be slicker in our passing, we have to get the ball wide earlier and we need to defend better against teams playing on the counter attack.
"In the end I am relieved we got a point because it was a game we could have taken nothing from."
Elgin were furious with the 75th minute red card for David A. Craig which their coach, Ross Jack, was adamant had changed the course of the game.
Craig got his marching orders for a tussle near the touchline with Andy Rodgers right under the eye of the linesman on the far side.
"We just tangled and both fell onto the ground," said Andy afterwards. "I was lying there and as he got up he had a bit of a punch at me. It was a bit silly right in front of the linesman, but that kind of thing happens and it was obviously a red card."
Jamie was happy with his goal but wants to move on and get more points on the board.
"I just want to do the best I can here," said the Shire goalscorer. "I would like to score as many goals as I can.
"We were disappointed with the way we played but the boys who were here last year know we are already off to a better start than we did last season, so that can only be a good thing."
