QUEEN'S PARK STROLLERS 6 SHIRE RESERVES 3

Alan Upton took a strong looking second string to Lesser Hampden for the resumption of the Reserve League Cup after a two month winter break.

Kevin McBride and Andy Rodgers were both included in the starting line-up despite both having played in the Third Division game against East Fife just a little over 48 hours earlier, while Marc McKenzie and Paul McBride had both made substitute appearances at New Bayview.

New signing Graham Smith also made his first appearance in a Shire jersey.

The home team made the better start and took the lead early on through Richard Bowers, but before a quarter of an hour had gone Paul McBride had brought Shire back into the game with a great long-range effort that beat Spiders' keeper Scott Murray.

The home goaliegave Shire the chance to take the lead not long after by bringing down Sean Simpson, and Rodgers opened his account with a well-taken penalty.

But Shire didn't hold the lead for longand just shy of the half hour McGrady made it 2-2. Worse was to followa minute before the interval when Waters scored to give the Strollers a 3-2 half-time lead.

Barely five minutes after the break Ryan Carr's low shot rebounded off the inside of Murray'sleft-hand post and over the line to tie the scores at 3-3.

But that was as good as it got for Shire. Bowers and McGrady each scored a second goal to put Queen's Park 5-3 aheadand Brough completed  the scoring with five minutes to go.
